128 Players. Good or Bad?
What we can talk about the system with 128 players fighting for the title in every venue?
Of course, nowadays snooker have high level enough to have 128 players in a tournament, but, in my opinion, Big Events and Ranking Tournaments is different events, and if you reduces the number of snooker players there, you can be helping in TV Coverage, Structure, and of course, in the atmosphere there.
The fans want 16 or 32 players, because they can watch their favourites playing against other Top Players. Champion of Champions in November is a example, where ITV4 gives to snooker, the coverage deserved, and the fans and players loved and want more.
When the Top Players needs to play a Quali Fier, they play serious, and prepare themselves for, but when they go to event, like the UK Championship, without need to be on the Top 16 or play a QF to be there, they don't play the earlier stages at their best. Marco Fu lost to an amateur because of it.
UK CHAMPIONSHIP, THE BIG TEST
Of course, Barry Hearn is looking for the expansion of snooker in the world, but York isn't enough to receive 128 players, and, in my opinion, is a big disrespectful players play at the "Principal Arena" when others players play at other place, IT'S THE UK CHAMPIONSHIP!
Other wrong thing was the calendar, where the players play 3 EVENTS in November, the same month of UK Championship's start, and one of these events, was the Champion of Champions, with big coverage and attention of the fans.
BBC COVERAGE
The UK Championship started in a tuesday, but the BBC Coverage just started sunday, why?
BBC was showing other sport - events, and 13 days of UK is a long time, so, BBC wanted not coverage in the first 4 days.
And it isn't a BBC's mistake, you can think: If ITV, Sky Sports and EuroSport prefer short events, why BBC need to show a long event?
BBC isn't a Snooker's employee.
FANS AND PLAYERS's REACTION
The 128 draw at York wasn't so loved by Fans and Players.
Fans want more invitations events, the same for the players. Ronnie O`Sullivan said after win the Champion of Champions "We need more invitations Event." and the event was one of the 10 topics most talked in twitter.
Mark Allen on Twitter: Barry [Hearn] is doing a great job but mistakes are being made without a doubt.
