Haikou World Open Preview
Can Mark Allen wins his 3rd consecutive
World Open Title?
The Haikou World Open in China will start Monday (10) and will have finish Sunday (16). Mark Allen, who has been very good this season, winning back-to-back European Tour events, will try to win this title for the third consecutive time.
The event will have all the top stars except Ronnie O`Sullivan - who will back to play day 25 for the PC Finals - and will be played with this format: "All matches up to and including quarter finals will be best of 9 frames, semi finals are best of 11 frames and the final is best of 19 frames."
Let's see what the World Open have for us:
Quarter Final 1:
Mark Allen v Mark Dunn
Yuan Sijun v Mark Williams
Ken Doherty v Barry Pinches
Alfie Burden v Ricky Walden
John Higgins v Alex Davies
Aditya Mehta v Michael White
Matthew Stevens v Yu De Lu
Sanderson Lam/Chen Zifan v Judd Trump
Here are two of my favorites for this tournament, they are Mark Allen and Judd Trump, and it will certainly be a quarter-final match, which I think Allen can win and run to the semi-finals.
Here is some others quality players like M White, John Higgins and Ricky Walden, and some exciting meetings in the first round/last 64 like John Higgins v Alex Davies and Aditya Mehta v Michael White.
Anyway I don't fancy another player than Judd and Allen who can take this semi-final, and Mark Allen looks good when he is defending titles, he is my favorite to make this semi-final and win the event.
Quarter Final 2:
Stephen Maguire v Thepchaiya Un-Nooh
Craig Steadman v Andrew Higginson
Ryan Day v Michael Wasley
Tian Pengfei v Graeme Dott
Shaun Murphy v Jimmy White
Cao Yupeng v Mark King
Xiao Guodong v Pankaj Advani
Ly Yan v Ding Junhui
This is a very tough part of the draw, with favorites for the title, like Maguire, Murphy and Ding, and surely others players who can make well here, principally Ryan Day, who played very well to reach Championship League's final group this month, but can have a hard test against Maguire in the last 16.
Murphy have hard matches on his course to the semi-final, and can face Ding Junhui in the last 16. It could be a very interesting match, because Ding is showing a very nicely form, and Shaun is trying to recover winning times, after catch the European Tour 8 trophy.
Anyway I think Ding get better to be playing in China, and will be the man to beat in this event.
Quarter Final 3:
Mark Selby v Anthony Hamilton
Gerard Greene v Noppon Saengkham
Liang Wenbo v Scott Donaldson/Lin Shuai
Adam Wicheard v Mark Davis
Robert Milkins v Rod Lawler
Alan McManus v Martin Gould
Dominic Dale v Michael Leslie
Steve Davis v Stuart Bingham
I think Here is almost obviously that Mark Selby will run to the semi-final, but his game isn't giving me much confidence and here are others names like Liang Wenbo (winner of AT3 and Runner-Up at AT4), Robert Milkins and Mark Davis, who can make something to put Selby out.
We will see some great matches here too, like Davis-Bingham, McManus-Gould, Selby-Hamilton and a possible Wenbo-Donaldson, if The Scot Scott Donaldson wins his wildcard match.
Quarter Final 4:
Barry Hawkins v Matthew Selt
Mark Joyce v David Morris
Ali Carter v David Gilbert
Kurt Maflin v Joe Perry
Marco Fu v Anthony McGill
Nigel Bond v Michael Holt
Tom Ford v Rory McLeod/Zhao Xintong
Jamie Jones v Neil Robertson
This is far the best part of the draw, I would like to watch all that matches, all that are very tough, interesting and exciting ones.
Is tough to see a winner here, we know that Neil is favorite to not only reach to the semis here, but also won the event.
Maflin and Perry will play each other in the first round, and I'm sure the winner here will fight for a place in the quarter.
Ali Carter and David Gilbert will also do a very entertaining match, Carter isn't playing his very best, but he have a strong potential, and Gilbert has been very good this season.
Semi-Finals:
Mark Allen v Ding Junhui
Mark Selby v Neil Robertson
It looks to be a very exciting event, with Eurosport's coverage, and I will watch as many matches as I could, because I live in Brazil and the times of the matches is very late here.
I fancy Mark Allen to complete a hat-trick here, because he is playing well and is good to defense titles.
Anyway there is many players who can have a nicely run, and we never know how the players will be at those events because every player is preparing himself in a different way for the Crucible next month.
