Snooker closer to the Olympics!

World Professional Billiard and Snooker Association (WPBSA) had a goal of adding Snooker into the Olympic Games by the year of 2024, but recent news from the Olympic Committee said that the 2020 Olympic Games will have at least one place for one more sport.
And of course, in the same time Snooker came as strong contender to get this extra place.
World Snooker has been already working to add Snooker in the Olympic Games and it's been successful as the sport has grown a lot around the World (principally in China, where billions people live in), but of course to add a Sport in the Olympic Games you take some time, anyway now with this extra place the target of getting in it by 2024 has been reduced to 2020. It's easier to get an available place than create one, isn't it?
For me, the Snooker start ahead of the other sports bidding, because Snooker is such a great sport involving Mental Prepare, Psychological, ability, potential and Strategy, the most entertaining Sport I've ever watched.
But the thing that's gonna make the way easier to Snooker, is the fans, who minutes after World Snooker Announced this, already made a big buzz on Internet.
We can never doubt of the power of the fans, just remember the furious ones when Ronnie O`Sullivan wasn't nominated to the SPOTY (Sports Personality of the Year), or have a look to the Twitter's trending topics, where Snooker subjects are often visitors to the Top 10.
Snooker reach to near half a Billion people audience in the whole world over the year.
Maybe the only thing which might left Snooker behind, is that the high quality players are concentrated in United Kingdom, anyway I can't see it being a problem, as a lot of Sports in the Olympics always give medals for the same country.
WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson said: "Snooker has grown at unprecedented levels in recent times and it has been our belief for some time that we should be given our chance on the ultimate global platform for sport. In 2001 we delivered, with great success, our sport to the International World Games in Akita, Japan, a programme which has continued to this day. Today we strongly believe that cue sports has a very powerful case for inclusion in the Olympics in Tokyo.
Snooker alone is watched by nearly half a billion people worldwide and played competitively in over 90 countries. With pool and carom alongside us under the WCBS, we have competition in around 200 countries, making us one of the world's most widely practised sports.
The Olympics brings together the most skilled and dedicated athletes on the planet. There are few sports which can match the skill and concentration of snooker; our players are pushed to their limits in mind and dedication. We are educating people through Cue Zone Into Schools and you do not have to look far to see the fundamental principles of the Olympic Movement being promoted at the highest level within our sport.
Olympic participation is part of our global vision and we are committed to seeing our players competing for gold medals on the Olympic stage. Let's begin in Tokyo in 2020."

As a Brazilian, I would like Snooker being already in the 2016 Olympics but better late than never!
I also want to congratulate Jason Ferguson and Barry Hearn, as nobody tried to make Snooker a popular worldwide sport. Of course the governing body of the 80's can't be blamed as they turned Snooker a popular Sport, but from 90 to ´10 the Sport stalled in the way, nobody did anything to change it.

Just want to say that votes for "The Crucible Quiz" are over, I'll be posting the results soon in the blog. To see a few exclusive anticipated numbers from the quiz, check out our Facebook Page.
