Snooker World Cup - Semi-Finals Preview
I got a good and a bad news. The good is that tomorrow we'll know what is the best Country in Snooker, the bad is that the World Cup will come to an end.
The event in Wuxi is running so nice, the crowd is expected to be packed tomorrow when we have the decision of who will take the World Trophy home with Semi-Finals and Final taking place in China.
All the four teams came comfortably from their Quarter Finals matches, the most close confront was between Australia and China B as I predicted, though it was 4-2 to China B, all the others matches finished 4-1.
Unbeaten till today, China A had no chance of defending the Chinese 2011 title being annihilated against Scotland and the host country now spends their hope on the 'B' team composed by two teenagers - Yan Bingtao, 15, and Zhou Yuelong, 17.
My favorite to the title, Wales, had no problems to beat Thai's team who were hopeful of winning the title already, and they keep as the only unbeaten team yet as Belgium had it's dream shocked in a 1-4 defeat against the strong Indian team made by Aditya Mehta and Pankaj Advani, two players above average.
Let's see now what I have for the semis:
Scotland (6) India
India have a strong team, with Ranking Event Finalist Mehta and World Billiards Champion Pankaj Advani, but they hasn't really played what they can, struggled in the less-strong group and taking nothing off from them, Belgium didn't really play very well this Saturday. Scotland (my winner pick in the Snooker World Cup Preview's post) have not just the strongest team left, Higgins and Maguire are very close friends also, looking at what they've played for the past few matches, Scotland has the bigger chance to go to the Final in my opinion.
Wales (6) China B
Before the tournament got started, I predicted Scotland to win the tournament, but from the second day I have changed my opinion seeing how good Wales is playing, Mark Williams and Michael White are playing great individually and playing together, they're the bests so far. Obviously they take the weight of "the last unbeaten team", but in my opinion that won't hit them. Of course, the Chinese team has been impressive, they're young but they're playing like they got 20 years of experience, tactically they're a great team and they doesn't seem to shake under the pressure, never playing a precipitated shot, but this year I heard "every great run has to come to an end", maybe it's the occasion, although reaching the Semis with a great chance is already great experience for the young players.
Scotland-India's match starts at 6am and once it's finished Wales and China B get on the baize to decide what will be the Final's encounter, which get started at 12:30pm (UK Time).
