History Maker O`Sullivan wins Masters title for a 6th time

Sunday Ronnie O`Sullivan won his 6th Masters Crown (see more), here's what makes this even more special than it already is:

  • It was O`Sullivan's 6th Masters title, equalling Stephen Hendry's record, but having won more matches than him, made more Finals and Centuries, he can be considered the King of the Masters can't he;
  • And his 6th title comes 21 years since his first one in 1995, when he was only 19 year-old.
  • The scoreline of 10-1 in the Final against Barry Hawkins was the biggest difference in a Masters Final equalling 1988 and the biggest since the Final is played in a Best of 19 frames format;
  • In the Final, O`Sullivan made his Masters' Century number 62, he's well ahead of 2nd place Stephen Hendry, who's already retired of course;
  • The Semi-Final was O`Sullivan's 62nd match at The Masters, beating Jimmy White's past record of 61;
  • The Final was O`Sullivan's 47th match won at The Masters, the closest to him still playing is John Higgins, who won his 25th match at The Masters this year (write off Steve Davis with 26);
  • O`Sullivan now has won a Triple Crown event each of the last 5 season (including the current one);
  • O`Sullivan did not just stopped playing for 8 months after the World Championship Quarter Final defeat, he stopped playing after 4 or 5 heavy defeats and did not win any title in 2015;
  • His comeback was late thanks to a back injury that he says that makes difference on his game. When he cameback last month, he lost to World Number 62 Stuart Carrington in the QUALIFIER for the German Masters;
  • Ronnie O`Sullivan now wins The Masters having won his last 12 matches;
  • In The Masters, his first televised tournament in nearly 9 months, he beat a double World, Masters and UK Champion (Mark Williams) in the first Round, his rival Mark Selby (3 times Masters Champion, 2012 UK Champion, 2014 World Champion and current World Number One) in the Quarter Final, the reigning World Champion and World Number 2 (Stuart Bingham) in the Semi Finals, and then crashed Hawkins (World Championship 2013 Finalist) 10-1 in the Final;
  • It was O`Sullivan's first title since December 2014 when he won the UK Championship for a 5th time.

I would spend 12 hours here talking about how amazing this win is, O`Sullivan wasn't at his best
but his Long Potting was just so good that it was giving him 1, 2, maybe even 3 chances every frame and putting a lot of pressure above his opponents this week. He has changed so much in the last 5 years, he wasn't playing his best and missing shots or losing position that you really couldn't see him missing when he's winnng tournaments like this. But as I said he's other Ronnie now, he steal important frames and give everything of him in the scrappy frames, not giving up like in the past.
Of course, congratulations Barry Hawkins for reaching the Final, he played very well and couldn't really get his hand on the table in the Final when he wasn't under pressure, hopefully he reaches another big final soon.

I absolutely loved this year's Masters, we had of everything and it was a great week of Snooker, can't wait for the next major tournament, that will be the German Masters (without Qualifier losers: O`Sullivan, Higgins, Junhui, Robertson, etc) running from Wednesday 3rd to Sunday 7th February.
You can keep following the Snooker through Ronnie O`Sullivan Brasil's Facebook Page.

Bye for Now
