SNOOKER POWER RANKING - MID SEASON UPDATE

After a season start that was - for many - "slow", we finally have in our hands enough material to launch the first Down The Rail's Power Ranking of the season. (Click here for the previous one, pre-Crucible).

Two Home Nations events are set to be concluded next month (English and Scottish Opens), but some prestigious events have already been held, such as the remarkable Hong Kong Masters, the already traditional Champion of Champions, the Northern Ireland Open in front of the enthusiastic Belfast crowd, and the first Triple Crown's of the season (UK Championship).

These events I mentioned have been dominated by only two players (Allen & O'Sullivan), who're naturally contesting in between them for "Player of the Season" so far. But it's worth to remember that, although I rank the players based on the Overall (OVR) score (which is the average of all attributes combined), that might not really mean a player ranked above the other is currently the better player. In the end, there are no ratings for "confidence" or "current form", and sometimes an attribute that might bring the Overall down is not making much of an impact to the player's results at the moment.

CRITERIA:

Potting: based on the player’s current form and how he’s been able to score, avoid easy misses and pot his way out of trouble.
Break-building: based on the player’s best potential, how he works his way around the table, controls the cue-ball and scores heavy.
Safety play: based on the player’s current form, how he’s been able to endure safety battles and create opportunities.
Long potting: based on the player’s current form at potting from distance.
Tactical play: based on the player’s snooker IQ, consequently how he chooses his shots and when to do what.
Pressure play: based on how the player handles pressure situations, and how much his level drops or not under pressure.
Overall: average of all ratings combined.
